I found this site by a total coincidence as I googeled árbæjarsafnið, kind of funny.

I think I have photos of that bike that span weeks as since I snapped it I've started studying at a school which I leave by passing that spot. I don't know how much is left now but last time I was there I snapped a photo of a snow-covered bicycle wheel securely locked to the bracket.

Which reminds me that I don't remember seeing that particular photo on my computer so I must investigate.

Thanks. I was using my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 (of course) at f/2.8, 1/160 and ISO set to 800. Auto WB, and focus settings for a user selected focus point and continuous focus off. With the three focus points of the D40 continuous focus isn’t worth a lot and the side focus points are not cross types and near-useless in dark conditions.

I would agree about the good and cheap options. I tend to shoot 17mm, which translates to 24ish, and I hear a lot about 50mm, but have yet to test it out. Although, I would say it’s next on my purchase list…
